Global trade trended down during the coronavirus outbreak with many countries recording a negative growth in exports this year, but Vietnam is an exception.  Exports surged by 34.0% year-on-year in February as Samsung Electronics increased shipments of smartphones after dropping 14.3% year-on-year in January.  Excluding the impact of lunar new year, its exports managed to buck the trend with a net increment of 2.4% year-on-year in the first two months in 2020.  Benefited from the trade war, its shipment to the US rose 19.6% so far this year.  In terms of category, smartphones & parts, computers & electronics, textiles & garments, machinery, footwears are the top 5 export items.
